- Begin by pressing the tofu to remove excess moisture. Wrap it in a clean towel and set something heavy on top for about 10 minutes, then cut it into bite-sized cubes.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together soy sauce, sesame oil, garlic powder, and maple syrup to create a flavorful marinade.
- Add the tofu cubes to the marinade, gently tossing to coat each piece evenly. Let sit for about 5 minutes to absorb the flavors.
- In a shallow dish, mix panko breadcrumbs with cornstarch and a pinch of salt and pepper. This will be your coating mixture.
- Using tongs or a fork, remove each tofu cube from the marinade, letting excess drip off, then roll it in the breadcrumb mixture until fully coated.
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and arrange the coated tofu pieces in a single layer, giving each enough space to crisp up evenly.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 400°F (200°C) for 25 to 30 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the nuggets are golden and crispy.
- Once baked, remove from oven and let cool slightly for a crunchy exterior and tender interior.
- Serve the crispy tofu nuggets hot with your favorite dipping sauce—think tahini, sriracha, or a cool cucumber yogurt.
Notes
For extra flavor, sprinkle with sesame seeds or chopped green onions before serving. You can also experiment with different seasonings in the breadcrumb mixture for variety.
